2020 / GOOGLE
SKILLSHOP ADVANCED BRAND
To serve a more experienced audience, Google created Skillshop Advanced, a sub-brand that needed to stand apart while remaining seamlessly connected to the core Skillshop identity.
Rather than reinventing the system, we refined and elevated it. We introduced a more modern, sophisticated look that distinguished the offering, streamlined production, and preserved overall brand consistency.

2020 / GOOGLE
MASTERY
ADVANCED REBRAND
The Advanced Brand for Google's Mastery team was created to differentiate their regular e-learning courses with those aimed towards a more experienced audience. The goal is to build a brand that is more modern and sophisticated without it being a departure from the original one. Efficiency is a priority, so the objective is to be able to save time by reusing pre-existing assets and making a few adjustments to fit the new brand.

PROBLEM
THE GOOGLE MASTERY BRAND NEEDED TO ESTABLISH A SUB-BRAND TAILORED FOR ADVANCED USERS, DISTINCT ENOUGH TO STAND OUT YET SEAMLESSLY ALIGNED WITH THE OVERARCHING GOOGLE MASTERY BRAND GUIDELINES.
SOLUTION
BY LEVERAGING THE FOUNDATION OF THE GOOGLE MASTERY BRAND AND REFINING IT WITH STRATEGIC ADJUSTMENTS, WE NOT ONLY STREAMLINE PRODUCTION TIMELINES BUT ALSO UPHOLD BRAND CONSISTENCY.
THE DISTINCTIONS LIES IN THE INCORPORATION OF STROKES WITHIN THE ADVANCED BRAND. THROUGH A MIX OF STROKES AND FILLS, ELIMINATION OF FACES, AND SIMPLIFICATION OF ILLUSTRATIONS, WE ELEVATE THE BRAND'S SOPHISTICATION WHILE MAINTAINING ITS FOUNDATIONAL ELEMENTS.

MY ROLE: LEAD DESIGNER
FOR THIS PROJECT, I LEAD THE REBRAND FROM THE BRAINSTORMING, CREATION AND APPLICATION OF THE ADVANCED MASTERY BRAND. AFTER THE BRANDING WAS FINALIZED, I OVERSAW THE CREATION OF NEW ASSETS AND COURSES TO ENSURE THEY WERE ON BRAND.

CORE SKILLSHOP BRAND
These are some of the illustrations that are part of the core Skillshop brand. One of our goals was to create a sub-brand that would feel distinct enough to stand on its own yet clearly connected to the parent brand.
By making only slight tweaks, we would repurpose existing assets as the base of the new system

To give illustrations that modern touch, they are mostly flat, only using gradients very sparingly to give some dimension.
Detail will be added mainly through strokes rather than more shades of color, and strokes with no fill can also overlap filled shapes to create variety.

PRESENTATION DESIGN
This Google Slides design is meant to complement the illustration style by sticking to grayscale only to avoid pulling focus from the graphics. While simple, it's elevated with statement typography, lines, and negative space.

GOOGLE MEET BACKGROUNDS
These meet backgrounds were created for a seminar that is held every year, usually at an offsite. Due to COVID, in 2020 that seminar would be held online, so my team and I created four different backgrounds that could be used when having these videocalls to liven up the mood.
