PROBLEM
The old Mastery brand was created with an internal audience in mind and was not fitting for the global audience the externalization of Skillshop would bring about.
SOLUTION
Refresh the Mastery brand with everyone in mind while still preserving the building blocks of the old style in order to continue to be able to use the existing asset library.
5x Designers
My role: Designer
I took part in the brainstorming, testing, and creation of the style guide for new Mastery brand. After the branding was finalized, my role was to implement it to Skillshop by creating illustrations and visual content for its courses that would be line with the style. I also overlooked the overall design and layout of the courses to ensure they were on brand.

COURSES
These are some of the courses I've created in collaboration with instructional designers and curriculum managers. My role is to create illustrations that are relevant to the content and make the learning experience enjoyable. The instructional designer is in charge of both designing how the information will be presented and the course layout.

GOOGLE MASTERY WORK
Google's Mastery team specializes in creating internal e-learning courses for Google sellers focused on product training as well as skillset improvement. As the team prepared to make this content available for an external audience with the launch of Skillshop, the Mastery brand felt in need of a rebrand. I worked alongside a small group of designers develop this new brand that fulfills the needs of reaching a global audience.

CHARACTERS
One of my favorite aspects of working at Google is the push for diversity, equity and inclusion. We reflect this by having a diverse cast of characters that are used throughout the courses. Our hope is for no one to feel excluded, so we are always open to feedback and suggestions on more characters that help represent everyone. These are the characters that I've created and their attributes.

ILLUSTRATIONS
This is what my day to day work while at Google looked like. Each course needs around 8-15 of these graphics depending on the length. In order to avoid visual clutter, we work with different levels of fidelity that create variation. On average, a course will have 1 hero image, 2-3 scenes, 3-4 spot images, and 4+ icons. To save production time, we have an extensive library of graphics we have already created that we can either reuse as is or use as the building blocks for new illustrations.
