PROBLEM

The old Mastery brand was created with an internal audience in mind and was not fitting for the global audience the externalization of Skillshop would bring about. Additionally, the old brand had an eextensive asset library that the team didn't want to waste. In order to repurpose it, the new brand would have to translate easily from existing creative.

SOLUTION

Refresh the advanced Mastery brand with a global audience in mind while still preserving the building blocks of the old style in order to continue to be able to use the existing asset library. Additionally, being able to differentiate it from the regular brand while still making it feel like they are part of the same Google family.

 My role: Designer

For this project, I lead the rebrand from the brainstorming, creating and application I took part in the brainstorming, testing, and creation of the style guide for new Mastery brand. After the branding was finalized, my role was to implement it to Skillshop by creating illustrations and visual content for its courses that would be line with the style. I also overlooked the overall design and layout of the courses to ensure they were on brand.

BRANDING

Building from white and the usage of the four brand colors is key for this to be recognized as a Google brand. To give illustrations that modern touch, they will be mostly flat, only using gradients very sparingly to give some dimension.  Detail will be added mainly through strokes rather than more shades of color, and strokes with no fill can also overlap filled shapes to create variety.

PRESENTATION DESIGN

This Google Slides design is meant to complement the illustration style by sticking to grayscale only to avoid pulling focus from the graphics. While simple, it's elevated with statement typography, lines, and negative space.

GOOGLE MASTERY ADVANCED REBRAND

The Advanced Brand for Google's Mastery team was created to differentiate their regular e-learning courses with those aimed towards a more experienced audience. The goal is to build a brand that is more modern and sophisticated without it being a departure from the original one. Efficiency is a priority, so the objective is to be able to save time by reusing pre-existing assets and making a few adjustments to fit the new brand. This project includes a presentation template, illustrations, and Google Meet backgrounds.

GOOGLE MEET BACKGROUNDS

These meet backgrounds were created for a seminar that is held every year, usually at an offsite. Due to COVID, in 2020 that seminar would be held online, so my team and I created four different  backgrounds that could be used when having these videocalls to liven up the mood.

Note: only the red and blue backgrounds are created by me
